[The Knowledge Project Ep. #8] Julia Galef: The Art of Changing Minds
Shane: You’re the co-founder for the Center for Applied Rationality. Where did the interest in rationality come from?
Julia: Well, people ask me that sometime, and I don’t have a great answer for it. I’ve been interested in … Before I knew the word rationality I’ve been interested in what better for word refers to for as long as I can remember, basically. One of my guesses as to the origins of my interest is my parents. They’re both very intellectually curious, smart, for sure, but also intellectually curious people who like to inquire about the world and encourage me and my brother to be curious about the world. More than that, they were also … unusually good at changing their minds when presented with a good argument or when they encountered new facts that should change their minds.
